An Unexpected Take-Away Fine Dining Experience on the Camel Trail

By The Atlantic Coast Express - 24th May 2021

A beautifully-renovated vintage railway carriage halfway along the Camel Trail cycle path is the unexpected popular location for fine dining this summer. Diners are clamouring to  book this exciting new experience and can’t wait to be among the few who will experience it!

The Atlantic Coast Express (known as ‘A.C.E’) (formally known as ‘Treats on Trikes’) has been serving up ice creams, crepes, coffees and cakes to walkers and cyclists since 2009, but have launched the addition of fine dining Summer Night Supper Clubs which are already proving extremely popular.

David Sharland (who has worked at the likes of The Savoy, The Vineyard and Harvey Nichols before becoming Rick Stein’s executive chef) and talented chef Eric Taylor will be creating imaginative dishes which celebrate the best of local produce with exclusive wine pairing from Padstow’s independent wine merchant BinTwo. With mouth-watering locally-sourced produce, imaginative menus and the chance to experience it all whilst immersed in nature, it will be an experience to remember.

There will be just five exclusive Camel Trail Summer Nights throughout the summer and places are expected to fill up fast. The first Summer Night will be on Saturday 29th May and will then take place on June 26th, July 24th, August 21st and September 11th.

These special events will be ticket only and booking is essential. The take away menu will celebrate local produce including local lobster and samphire picked along the estuary.

Diners can arrive by bike, by foot, by boat or on horseback to enjoy the gourmet foodie delights on offer - there’s really nothing quite like it. A.C.E has joined forces with WaveHunters Water Taxi so that those wishing to arrive at their Supper Night via boat from either Padstow or Rock can do so! Pull up a picnic blanket, bring your own cutlery/glasses and sit watching riverlife passby as you enjoy gourmet bliss…

Kelly Littlejohns (one of the owners of A.C.E) says, The Camel Estuary in the evening is a magical and peaceful place. The light dances on the water as the sun sets, and the enchanting call of bird song is truly blissful. Enjoying delicious take-away fine dining in this special location is magical and we can’t wait to share this with you!

The sympathetically-converted vintage train carriage is a beautiful open air dining space which is named in honour of the train which once puffed its way from Waterloo to Padstow between 1926 and 1967. The last ACE left Padstow in Cornwall on 5 September 1964 and it’s a true delight to see a tribute to this slice of history over 50 years later.
