Being a businesswoman myself for many years, I now enjoy working to help others see their hopes and dreams become reality.

In my last role I worked with Outset as a Business Advisor and then the Business Delivery Team Leader. I have helped clients in Business Start Up, Growth, Sustainability and Innovation.

I started my working life in the Royal Military Police after a three-year posting to HQ Northern Ireland. I then joined the Metropolitan Police in London where I was Detective Constable.

After starting a family, I moved to Cornwall where I set up and ran a Bed and Breakfast business. I then went on to start and run a fish and chip shop, a newsagent and an estate agency.

In my spare time I volunteer on the St Ives RFC committee, sit on the Saint Boardriders surf club committee and am a campanologist and volunteer on the St Ives Lifeboat.

But most of all I love being with my family and my crazy Cocker Spaniels.

My perfect day involves: I have a number of perfect days including walking my dogs out across the fields or on Porth Kidney Beach at low tide. A trip away in the van with family and dogs is another or watching my kids (young adults) play rugby. Catch up with friends and laugh over a couple of drinks. Also getting a shout on the Lifeboat to go and work as a team in assisting someone who needs our help.

If I could give start-up's one piece of advice: Starting a business is like having a baby -  there is never a good time. BUT, if you have done your research and due diligence and it presents as a viable option then go for it!

Career highlight: Sourcing the Start Up funding for my Estate Agency with nothing but a Business Plan and a brass neck! My partner and I didn't have any assets to act as security for a conventional loan, so I approached local business owners who I thought might have a bit of spare cash and be willing to invest in a new venture. I requested a meeting, delivered my pitch and was fortunate enough to raise £50,000.
